Lady Blues Tennis Edged by Concord

ATHENS, W. Va. – In a non-conference match with Mercer County rival Concord University, the Bluefield State College women’s tennis team was defeated 4-3 Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Concord University.

The teams split their double matches after the Lady Blues no. 1 team made up of Sierra Hanks and Bryttnie Morrow defeated Emily Fletcher and Laura Leon 8-6. In the no. 2 doubles match, the Megan Meeks and Quartney Settle were defeated 8-2 by Christine Knable and Kirby Mustard.

In singles action, the Lady Blues were able to corral two wins at the no. 1 and no. 5 positions as freshmen Sierra Hanks and Kristine Price claimed singles wins. Hanks, playing at the no. 1 position dropped her opponent 6-0, 6-1 while Price engaged in a three-set thriller before defeating her opponent 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

The Lady Blues will return to action Sept. 23 when they compete in the ITA Atlantic Regionals hosted by University of Charleston.
