Lady Blues Softball Lose Doubleheader at Charleston
CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston softball team swept the Bluefield State Lady Blues 9-0 (5 innings) and 6-0 Tuesday afternoon in a WVIAC doubleheader at the UC Softball Complex.
Senior Cari Neal led the Lady Blues (1-30, 0-20 WVIAC) at the plate with two hits in the doubleheader.
In the first game, the Golden Eagles (30-16, 17-4 WVIAC) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. They added three in the third and their final run in the fourth to take the game in the fifth.
In the nightcap, BSC had a better showing as starting pitcher Loren Whited pitched the complete game, giving up six runs (four earned), scattering 11 hits and tied her season-high with seven strikeouts. However the Lady Blues were hindered by five errors in the game.
BSC will continue their conference slate Friday afternoon, traveling to Wheeling, W. Va. for a doubleheader with Wheeling Jesuit. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
