BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Bluefield State College Athletics Department closed their 2012-13 athletic year by celebrating its student-athletes at its athletics awards banquet, Thursday night (May 9) in the Othello Harris-Jefferson Student Center.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the event along with the athletics department and handed out awards including SAAC Community Service Award and the Best Team Player Award. The athletics department named their male and female student-athlete of the year and coach of the year.
The event welcomed more than 90 guests including faculty & staff, BSC President Dr. Marsha Krotseng, alumni and student-athletes to celebrate the year. The event was emceed by SAAC member and senior baseball player Robert Haggerty.
The SAAC Community Service Award was given to the baseball, men’s and women’s basketball teams for their service in the community this year. The three programs were honored for their commitment to giving back to the

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Bluefield State golf team collectively had their best round of golf in the final day of the NCAA II Atlantic/East Regional but it was not enough to climb into the top three of the team standings to advance to the NCAA II National Championships as they finished seventh for the second consecutive year at the NCAA II Atlantic/East Regional. The Big Blues concluded the event with a 913 (322-299-292).
Indiana University of Pa. wrapped up the day shooting a tournament-low 288 to win the tournament with a 39-over par 891. Wilmington University (Del.) and California University of Pa. rounded out the top three teams to advance to the National Championships in Hershey, Pa.
Nick Dent led the Big Blues, shooting a one-over par 72 to finish the tournament with a 224 (+11) and tied for sixth place in the individual standings.
Jeff McGraw had his best day of the three-day event, carding a 73 to finish with a 232 and tied for 39th individually. Chandler Beavers finished

WHEELING, W. Va. – Chandler Beavers shaved 15 strokes off his first-day score and had a career-day to help Bluefield State’s golf team ascend the leaderboard of the NCAA II Atlantic/East Regional to tie for eighth place after finishing day one tied for 15th place.
Beavers and his teammates collectively shot a 299 today and have a 621 (+53) after two days. Wilmington continued to lead all teams, firing a 301 today for a 31-over par 599.
After shooting a season-worst 85 yesterday, Beavers bounced back today and shot a career-best 70 to finish the day with a 155 and tied for 30th in the individual standings. Nick Dent also had a better day two, shooting a 74, a four-stroke improvement from day one to post a 152 after two days and to move into a tie for 14th place.
Tyler Browning also had a double-digit stroke improvement, shaving 13 strokes off his day one score, firing a 75 to put his score at 163. Jeff McGraw (79-80=155) and T.J. Knight (80-83=163) rounded out the Big Blues

WHEELING, W. Va. – The Bluefield State golf team shot a 322 (+38) to end the first day of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional tied for 15th place. Wilmington University (Del.) is first on the team leaderboard after firing a 14-over par 298 at the par-71, 7,001 yard Speidel Jones Courst at Oglebay Resort.
Four-time All-WVIAC performer Nick Dent leads the Big Blues with a 78 (+7) to finish the day tied for 26th in the individual standings. Jeff McGraw is one stroke behind with a 79 (+8) and TJ Knight fired an 80. Chandler Beavers and Tyler Browning rounded out the day, carding an 85 (+14) and 88 (+17) respectively.
Wilmington’s Andrew Baldo and University of Charleston’s Jamin Smith currently lead in the individual standings, shooting a 72 apiece.
