BSC Hires Barbara Borst as Asst. Women's Basketball Coach
Bluefield, W.Va. – The Bluefield State Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Barbara Borst as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. Coach Borst comes to Bluefield State after playing Semi-Professional basketball with the San Antonio Crusaders in the WBCBL. She was one of the leading scorers averaging over 14 points per game. Borst also coached basketball at Seton Catholic Central. Coach Borst lettered for four years playing basketball at Division II East Stroudsburg University in the tough PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference). Borst graduated with a degree in Health and Physical Education. Coach Borst played basketball and graduated from Greene Central High School. BSC Hires Todd Fong as Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach
Bluefield, W.Va. – The Bluefield State Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Todd Fong as the Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach effective immediately. Coach Todd Fong comes to BSC from Maryland. He has over 10 years of head coaching experience at different levels. Coach Fong had stops at College of Southern Maryland and Columbia Union College (now Washington Adventist University). He has been the Director of Operations for the Tightline Basketball Camp in LaPlata, MD for over 25 years. Tightlinen is the largest basketball camp in Southern Maryland. Coach Fong says, "I am honored and grateful and ready to hit the ground running," about his new position at Bluefield State, "Go Blues!" Wiggins and Jackson Participate in Beyond Sports Basketball Tour
Costa Rica –Two Bluefield State Women's Basketball players, Shakima Wiggins (a senior from Atlanta, GA) and Tenika Jackson (a junior from Bluefield, WV), traveled to Costa Rica from June 25th- July 3rd for Beyond Sports' Third Annual Costa Rica Basketball Tour. Wiggins and Jackson joined a team of all-conference honorees and statistical leaders from colleges across the country to take on Costa Rica's National Basketball Team and top club teams. In addition to the competition component of the trip, athletes also provided sports clinics for Costa Rican youth. One clinic was held at a local school in San Jose, and another was in partnership with Special Olympics of Costa Rica. The group also visited Manuel Antonio National Park and Volcano Arenal during the tour with opportunities to zip-line through the rainforest, learn to surf, and encounter wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, toucans and iguanas. Coach JJ Oliver's 3rd Annual Basketball Camp
  Bluefield, WV- Coach JJ Oliver's 3rd Annual Basketball camp finished up yesterday. The Camp was held on Monday, June 22nd through Thursday, June 25th. There was a great turn out for the camp this year with approximately 45 campers for the week ranging from 5-18 years of age. The campers came from 7 different cities in 3 states: Bluefield, Princeton, Peterstown, Ballard, Montcalm, Beckley, and Oceana in West Virginia; Bluefield, Tazewell and Bland Co. in Virginia; and Mobile, Alabama. Coach Oliver had 15 individuals helping/coaching during the camp's duration: Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Lekiesha White, Charity Harris, Shae Mebane, Janae Williams, Tenika Jackson, Corey Love, Tasia Nolan, Lykel Collier, Michael Yost, Christian Jugah, Tafadzwa Mawisire, Carlos Taylor, Katherine Brown, Jasmine Byard, and Becky Lewis. Coach Oliver said this about this year's camp, "I was really pleased with the turnout from our camp. We place a heavy emphasis in fundamentals in our camp.

Coach Oliver Selected to Participate in the Center For Coaching Excellence by the WBCA
Bluefield, WV– Bluefield State College Women's Basketball Head Coach J.J. Oliver has been selected as one of 30 coaches across the nation to participate in the Center For Coaching Excellence by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The exclusive invitational-only elite leadership program will be held from June 8-10 at Columbia University in New York City. Over 125 college women's basketball coaches have completed the two-and-a-half-day seminar since its inception in 2011, with two sessions taking place each summer.
