Lady Blues Are Back-to-Back ECAC DII Champs
DANBURY, Conn. – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team defeated the #1 seed, Lincoln University, on their home court 72-70 in overtime. The Lady Blues have won the 2015 ECAC DII Championship. The Lady Blues have repeated as ECAC DII Champions (2015 and 2014). Box Score In the first half, both teams were scoring and the lead changed quite a few times, but the Lady Blues took the lead and pushed it to 9 points after 2 made free-throws by Shakima Wiggins at the half. In the second half, the Lady Blues quickly pushed the lead to 11 points after 2 made free-throws by Tonya Jackson, just under a minute into the game. But, the Lincoln University went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 5 with 15:11 on the clock. The Lady Blues came right back and pushed the lead back to 10 points. Lincoln University would not give up and eventually cut the lead to 2 points at the 4:09 mark and eventually tied the game and took a 3 point lead with 1:18 remaining. Lady Blues def. Le Moyne 76-72 to Play in the Final
DANBURY, Conn. – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team defeated the #2 seed Le Moyne College (17-14) 76-72 in the second semifinal game of the 2015 ECAC DII Championship in Lincoln, PA Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Lady Blues a 20-7 record, the 20 wins gives the Lady Blues' program the most wins in a season since the 1993-94 season. The win put the Lady Blues into the Championship game against the #1 seed Lincoln University (21-7), who is also the host for the tournament. The Championship game will be on Sunday, March 15th at 1pm on the campus of Lincoln University in Lincoln, PA. Box Score The Lady Blues scored first by a layup by Charity Harris. The Lady Blues pushed the lead to 9 at the 7:02 mark of the first half and held on to the lead 41-37 into halftime. In the second half, Le Moyne made a run and took an 8 point lead at the 12:30 mark. Lady Blues Seeded #3 in the ECAC DII Women's Championship
DANBURY, Conn. – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team will look to repeat in the ECAC DII Women's Basketball Championship. The Lady Blues (19-7) received the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will take on the No. 2 seed, Le Moyne College (17-13) on Saturday, March 14th. The time is still TBA. The Lincoln University was selected as the No. 1 seed. The tournament consists of a four-team field with a semifinal round, followed by a championship round. The Lincoln University will serve as the host of the tournament. In the semifinal contests on Saturday, March 14, The Lincoln University will host No. 4 Dominican College (15-14), while No. 2 Le Moyne College (17-13) will take on third-seeded Bluefield State College (19-7) at Manuel Rivero Hall in Oxford, Pa. The semifinal winners will advance to the finals on Sunday, March 15, at The Lincoln University. Lady Blues defeat Central State 78-65 at Home
Bluefield, WV – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team faced a tough Central State University squad tonight, but still came out ahead with a 78-65 victory in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium. With the win, the Lady Blues overall record is 19-7 on the season. Box Score The Lady Blues missed a few shots to start the game, but were up 14-5 at the 14:30 mark and continued to score at will to push the lead to 16 points after a couple layups by Tasia Nolan and Shakima Wiggins. The Marauders came back and cut into the deficit, but the Lady Blues still had a 9 point lead at the half, 37-28. In the second half, the Marauders cut the lead to 5 points by the 15:37 mark. But, Shakima Wiggins made a three to push it back to 8 points. Both teams had mini-runs in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the Lady Blues kept a 9-to-11 point lead the rest of the game and eventually pushed it to 13 points for the win. Lady Blues Win Big at Home Against WAU
Bluefield, WV – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team won big against Washington Adventist University tonight 80-47 in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium. The victory brings the Lady Blues overall record to 18-7 on the season. Box Score The Lady Blues got on the board first with senior Hope Smith scoring on an easy layup just a 10 seconds into the game. The Shock went on a 5-0 run, but the Lady Blues quickly snapped the run with a jumper by senior Charity Harris. The Lady Blues took the lead at the 12:45 mark of the first half and pushed the lead to 10 points with 2:16 left, but let the Shock score a couple baskets to give the Lady Blues a 30-26 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Blues were unstoppable. They played hard, tough defense that led to their offense.
