Coach Oliver's 3rd Annual Basketball Camp Announced
Bluefield, WV– The Bluefield State Athletic Department is proud to announce Head Women's Basketball Coach, JJ Oliver's 3rd Annual BSC Basketball Camp. The camp is co-ed and will be conducted June 22-25, 2015 (9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. daily) in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium on the BSC campus. "The camp is designed for boys and girls, age 5-18 years of age (high school graduates are not eligible). Coach Oliver, who is coming off leading the Lady Blues to the best record in program history and a 2nd consecutive ECAC Conference Championship, and camp counselors will work with campers to sharpen fundamental skills and enhance their understanding of the game. Campers will also have an opportunity to swim on Wednesday June 24, 2015 after the day's camp activities. The camp fee is $75/participant and an optional meal plan may be purchased for an additional $25 for the week (meals include choice of pizza, chips, drink, and fruit or sub sandwich, chips, drink, and fruit.). National Student-Athlete Day
BLUEFIELD, WV.– The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was pleased to celebrate all our student-athletes recognized for National Student-Athlete Day on April 2nd, 2015 in the PE Building. National Student-Athlete Day recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments in their sport, classroom (3.0 GPA or above), and community services. This year, we had 51 student-athletes recognized and at least one student-athlete representing all of our 10 sports and cheerleaders. We had six student-athletes who had a 4.0 GPA. All student-athletes received a certificate of their accomplishments from SAAC Advisor Kerri Francis. Three Lady Blues Selected to the Pro Combine and Camps
Bluefield, WV– The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team is very proud to announce that three of their players have been invited to attend the Women's Pro Combine & Free Agent Camps to be held at the Women's Final Four in Tampa, FL this weekend. Hope Smith, Charity Harris, and Tasia Nolan were selected to receive invitations to the try-out camps based on their athletic achievements and abilities shown while participating for the Lady Blues. The invited participants consist of the top college seniors, professional players from overseas and unsigned WNBA Free Agents. The combines are considered the best and most affordable platform for players to be evaluated by WNBA coaches and general managers as well as international teams and agents. The combined talent pool gives each and every player the opportunity to compete at the highest level in drills, position work and scrimmages. Lady Blues Are Back-to-Back ECAC DII Champs
DANBURY, Conn. – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team defeated the #1 seed, Lincoln University, on their home court 72-70 in overtime. The Lady Blues have won the 2015 ECAC DII Championship. The Lady Blues have repeated as ECAC DII Champions (2015 and 2014). Box Score In the first half, both teams were scoring and the lead changed quite a few times, but the Lady Blues took the lead and pushed it to 9 points after 2 made free-throws by Shakima Wiggins at the half. In the second half, the Lady Blues quickly pushed the lead to 11 points after 2 made free-throws by Tonya Jackson, just under a minute into the game. But, the Lincoln University went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 5 with 15:11 on the clock. The Lady Blues came right back and pushed the lead back to 10 points. Lincoln University would not give up and eventually cut the lead to 2 points at the 4:09 mark and eventually tied the game and took a 3 point lead with 1:18 remaining. Lady Blues def. Le Moyne 76-72 to Play in the Final
DANBURY, Conn. – The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team defeated the #2 seed Le Moyne College (17-14) 76-72 in the second semifinal game of the 2015 ECAC DII Championship in Lincoln, PA Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Lady Blues a 20-7 record, the 20 wins gives the Lady Blues' program the most wins in a season since the 1993-94 season. The win put the Lady Blues into the Championship game against the #1 seed Lincoln University (21-7), who is also the host for the tournament. The Championship game will be on Sunday, March 15th at 1pm on the campus of Lincoln University in Lincoln, PA. Box Score The Lady Blues scored first by a layup by Charity Harris. The Lady Blues pushed the lead to 9 at the 7:02 mark of the first half and held on to the lead 41-37 into halftime. In the second half, Le Moyne made a run and took an 8 point lead at the 12:30 mark.
