Awards Banquet Honors All Student-Athletes
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Bluefield State College Athletics Department closed their 2012-13 athletic year by celebrating its student-athletes at its athletics awards banquet, Thursday night (May 9) in the Othello Harris-Jefferson Student Center. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the event along with the athletics department and handed out awards including SAAC Community Service Award and the Best Team Player Award. The athletics department named their male and female student-athlete of the year and coach of the year. The event welcomed more than 90 guests including faculty & staff, BSC President Dr. Marsha Krotseng, alumni and student-athletes to celebrate the year. The event was emceed by SAAC member and senior baseball player Robert Haggerty. The SAAC Community Service Award was given to the baseball, men’s and women’s basketball teams for their service in the community this year. BSC Student-Athletes Earn President’s and Dean’s List Accolades for Fall 2012 Semester
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – One hundred forty-one students earned “President’s List” recognition and 268 students received “Dean’s List” honors for their academic performance during the Fall 2012 semester with seven student-athletes earning “President’s List” distinction and 15 student-athletes named to the “Dean’s List.” To be eligible for the “President’s List,” a student must be degree-seeking, carry a minimum of 12 semester hours and earn a grade point average for the semester of 3.8 or better. “Dean’s List” students must carry a minimum of 12 semester hours and earn a grade point average for the semester of 3.25 or better. Lady Blues Volleyball Close 2012 Season with Loss to #19 Wheeling Jesuit
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Bluefield State volleyball team’s 2012 season has come to an end with a 3-0 loss to the nationally-ranked no. 19 Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals Saturday morning in Ned Shott Gymnasium. Freshman Kendria Perkins paced the Lady Blues attack with five kills while Courtney Bowlus and Kristen Hutchinson dished three assists apiece. Bowlus led the team with five digs. The Cardinals attack boasted a blistering .634 hitting percentage led by Rachel Gambow’s 15 kills. Emily Blank and Angela McNulty also finished with double-digit kills tallying 13 and 12 kills respectively. Mikayla Zernic orchestrated the Wheeling Jesuit attack, finishing with 43 assists. Defensively, Gabby Guanicale led the match with nine digs. First-year head coach Carmelo Eleutiza will now focus his attention on recruiting student-athletes for the 2013 season to assist him in the building process of the Lady Blues

Lady Blues Volleyball Blanked By Charleston
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Bluefield State volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by the University of Charleston, Wednesday night in Eddie King Gym. Kendria Perkins and Natalie Ramos led the Lady Blues attack with two kills apiece while Perkins led the defense with nine digs. Courtney Bowlus dished three assists in the loss. BSC will close out the 2012 season with two matches this weekend, playing West Liberty Friday, Nov. 9 and Wheeling Jesuit Saturday Nov.

Fairmont State Falcons Soar Past Lady Blues
BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – The Fairmont State volleyball team defeated Bluefield State 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-11) Friday night in Ned Shott Gymnasium. The Falcons (19-8, 7-3 WVIAC) showcased a balanced offensive attack led by nine kills from Erin Harwood and eight kills apiece from Kara Crabill and Kaitlin Witsaman. Jessica Margo and Tabbie dished 19 and 17 assists respectively. Defensively, Tiff Smathers and Witsaman led the team with seven digs apiece. The Lady Blues offense was led by Ashley Reid with five kills. Reid also led the match with nine digs. Courtney Bowlus contributed seven assists in the match. BSC returns to action tomorrow for an 11 a.m. match against Seton Hill in Ned Shott
